Young monk seal sighting on the island of Porto Santo

On April 10, the IFCN was alerted by the presence of a seal on a beach on the island of Porto Santo. The technicians moved immediately to the site, and confirmed the presence of a young seal. It is a female born last October in the Desertas Islands. It is in good condition, and for now, it is resting and feeding.

The technicians have set up surveillance turns, and the area where the young seal rests, have been perimetrated to ensure its tranquility. Contacts with local authorities have also been initiated, to manage a protection and information plan.
